How to Buy Your Guy a Gift

What are their hobbies?

Are they a golfer, Harley or ATM rider? When you’re clear what their hobbies are it’s so much easier to buy for them.

What type of personality do they have?

Are they an introvert or extrovert? A geek or work with their hands type of guy? Do they prefer quiet nights with you or carousing at a club?

Check out what they own:

What does he already have. When he’s not around, check out what he’s purchased and owns. Is he into the latest in high tech? Have an Ipod, MP3, Blackberry, for example. So he’s into music and communications.

Chat with your guy’s family and friends:

Unlike women, men like to chat with family and friends - showing off their latest high tech toys, hottest golf gear, exciting Harley goodies they’ve added to their motorcycle, latest Game Boy. And are always willing to talk about what they plan to acquire next. So family and friends can be a great source of good gifts.

Do some research on any item you plan to buy:

Get online and check out various websites of companies who carry any items you plan to buy. Compare prices, return policies, for example. Read magazines like Cycle if they’re a bicycle rider. Golf magazine. Also check out Consumer Reports, a fee site with info on almost any products you want to buy. So you’re confident in what you’re buying.

Tips on Buying a Floral Arrangement for a Man

Consider their lifestyle, where they live (if not with you). What type of atmosphere is it? Does he keep it warm or cool? What’s type of light fills the rooms - natural or manufactured?

Would it be better to have the floral delivered to their office? If so, find out where his particular office, or area is located. What type of light there is? Is it a warm or cooler atmosphere? Busy?

When atmosphere isn’t perfect for flowers, perhaps it’s time to think about opting for a natural arrangement. Items such as dish gardens, topiaries, a flowering plant. Planters with rocks and a woody, masculine, linear look.

If you’re creating this, think about something unique. Customize it to reflect his hobbies and interests. Create a small tree using artificial limbs, moss and greenery. Tuck in a gift of his favorite cologne, for instance. Or a special gift of jewelry.

Order your gift in a simple and straightforward items like a square or rectangular bowl or unique vase. Rich colors like shades of brown and rust, blues and navy, brown and turquoise combo, shades of deep red and rust.

If you’re unable to decide what to choose check out online flower companies with large portfolios of florals and gifts.

How to Give Your Lover or Significant Other a Gift:

Men aren’t as hard to gift as you may think. They appreciate gifts which they want and need. Frivolous gifts turn them off. Most would prefer a gift certificate to their favorite Harley dealership, ATV dealer, or tech and communications biz like Best Buy, or favorite fishing tackle and gear store.

Or, if you know what want and need, buy them an accessory or gear for their sports equipment or bike. Apparel you know they want, have purchased similar items in the past or you know is perfect for them, is also a great gift,

Unless you know the man in your life needs a silk tie, scarf, dress shirt or underwear, steer clear of such items. Expensive scarves can end up in a bottom drawer and never used; a tie can hang on a hanger until it turns brown with age. And underwear simply isn’t a gift to give on any special occasion (unless it’s a fun gift of designer boxers!).

If your man loves to read and you know what he reads, sometimes buying several books and creating a gift bag with books can be the most appreciated gift. Or a special, signed edition of a book he loves. Also, CD’s of the author reading the book. A subscription to Amazon.com’s Kindle book software, for example.

Tech items like CD’s plus some of his favorite music; a DVD with a couple of his favorite movies and tickets to a movie he wants to see. Hard to find items related to hobbies, sports and other interests he has will also please him.

Funny or unique gifts which are related to something you share, something that happened, a comedian or favorite person he enjoys can also work. Steer clear of automotive items unless you know exactly what he needs; cars are a tricky area.

Bottom line, know what he wants, needs and likes before heading out to buy for him. Show him you do pay attention by purchasing a thoughtful gift he’ll appreciate.
